Fandom: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Summary: Sarah Connor and Catherine Weaver engage in a rap battle.
Reccer's Notes: Starting off with one of my favorite vids of all time! I claim no objectivity, since this vid was a present for me, but trust me when I say it's amazing. This vid envisions the whole show as a philosophical conflict between Sarah Connor and Catherine Weaver, and the result is a brilliant, chewy encapsulation of the deeper meta themes of the show and the fundamental questions about the way forward that Sarah has to answer. Plus, a meta conflict between two such powerful female characters, be still myheart brain heart.
Sarah fights everything, humans and truth and lies and her own body, and especially the robots, because that's what she knows (it's all she knows), until Weaver complexifies what robots do and are, and who's on whose side and how to win the war. Sarah is a guerrilla fighter, but Weaver is a revolution, in technology but also in ways of thinking and defining alliances, and Sarah has to join this new, more flexible, more optimistic way of thinking or not. And that decision of hers--the outcome of this war in her mind--matters a great deal; it's maybe the only thing that matters, if Sarah really wants to change the future.
The lyrics of the song are oddly resonant and incredibly dense, and the vid rewards multiple watches to understand all the lyrics matching. The editing and imagery is fantastic, highlighting significant moments or shots or bits of motion that carry a lot of meaning, especially in the use of technology often taking the form of bodies--Sarah's fragile one, and the resilient, resistent, shape-shifting metal bodies of the robots. The whole thing is dense and exciting and leaves my brain spinning in the best way.
