Sorry for the delays, everyone! Hopefully you're still interested. :) Finally, here we go.
1. From now until the end of October, your challenge is to watch and comment on new-to-you vids! Watch new vids, increase discussion about vids, leave feedback for vidders, share links to new vids; everybody wins!
2. Here’s what to do:
a. Find a vid you’ve never watched;
b. Watch it and leave feedback for the vidder (comment, via email, PM, however you want);
c. Post a link to the vid in the comm, including at least the vid title, fandom and the vidder’s name. Say something about the vid in the comm post. (Here's a link to the regular posting template, if want to use it). You can copy and paste the comment you left for the vidder, or say something else. Just tell us a little bit about the vid, what worked, what you liked, how it made you feel, what you thought it was doing, etc. (You can post about each vid you watch for the challenge separately, or include multiple vids in one post. It's up to you. But if it gets long, please use a cut tag).
3. No minimum, no maximum, no signing up, no assigned dates. Do one vid, do one every day, or anywhere in between. No pressure, it's all for fun.
4. Please tag your post with "challenges: new-to-me". Tag the fandom(s) for the vid too, or I will. I will create the fandom tags if they don't already exist, as usual.
5. Optional categories. If it will be useful to you to have some guidance, here are some entirely optional categories of new-to-you vids to think about.
As a secondary challenge, do one in each category! And win. . . my squee!
-- A vid from one of your current fandoms;
-- A vid from an old fandom of yours;
-- A vid from a source you're interested in watching but haven’t yet;
-- A vid from a source you think you know all about from fandom but haven’t actually seen;
-- A vid from a source you know nothing about;
-- A vid that has been first posted online in the past three months;
-- A new-to-you vid by a new-to-you vidder;
-- Wildcard! Go to the vidder catalogs post and as blindly as possible, randomly click on a vidder. Pick a vid of theirs you haven’t seen.
6. Here are some resources for finding new-to-you vids. And perhaps most helpful of all, don't forget the list of vidder catalogs! You can also post and ask for recs for vids of a certain kind, from a certain fandom, about a certain character, whatever, either in the comm or obviously in your own journal or wherever you normally would.
7. A note on comments/discussions about the vids. Given that vidders have not volunteered their vids for this challenge, the focus is certainly not to be critical. I don’t want a rule that says no negative comments, but let’s try to keep the focus more on what the vid is doing, what works, what’s interesting, what feelings it evokes, etc. Above all, be constructive, and if you can’t find something relatively positive to say, then just pick a different vid.
Questions, comments, etc.? Leave a comment.
Go forth and watch all the vids!
